It was an extremely long and brutal winter in Kansas City and I am letting out an audible sigh of relief that it’s officially the first day of Spring as I type this. The polar vortex of sub zero temperatures and snow felt like it would never end. But outdoor photo shoot weather has finally arrived!
A common question people ask me is what to wear for their outdoor photo sessions. I cover the basics to that question in the FAQ section but I thought I’d go a little more in depth in this blog.
A good rule of thumb if dont know what to wear is to go the simple route. And the perfect way to do that in Spring is to go with pastels. This will give your photos a little pop of color while insuring it isn’t distracting. Pastels are not only a great Spring fashion choice, but the muted hues guarantee they won’t become the focal point of the photo and you will still shine!
To amp up the style you can take the pastel look to the next level with a pastel dress or skirt for women, or a pair of pastel pants for men.

It’s always good to skip huge logos and super busy prints as they not only take the focus away from you, but they can clash with the surroundings as well. But soft floral prints are a great way to add some personal style to any shoot. They also happen to be on trend, in a timeless way that won’t date your photos.
Which brings me to another important thing for you to consider when picking your photo shoot outfit. If you are considering wearing something super trendy it is important to think about whether the trend is the kind that will only last for a short time and will date your pictures. I want you to love your pictures for years to come and look back on them fondly, and sometimes over the top trends fade quickly and you might regret the choice later when you look at the photos. Now don’t get me wrong I am a full on fashionista and love a bold and daring look, and if your going for that style in your photos I will help you rock it with unique and creative portraits. I’m just here to help you think about what you really want out of your photos in the end so you can plan your style around that.
What it really comes down is you and your personal style and what makes you feel most confident, because when you feel confident you will radiate and rock your photo shoot.
